We at Beautiful Life for the Deaf of CT feel it is vital to ensure our Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing communities are kept abreast of current preventative healthcare treatments, options and/or information that is vital to general medical knowledge and understanding. These groups have been historically underserved and are widely considered among those experiencing healthcare disparities. By partnering with local and/or state health systems, it is our goal to create a learning environment through workshops, screenings, and referrals. The goal is to establish a "mini" clinic in our facility to address the medical needs of these communities while also providing ongoing education.
Not only is transportation an essential component to employment and economic development, but it is also vital for people to live normal and productive lives. There are errands to run, doctors to see, packages to send. The list goes on. Therefore, getting folks where they need to go is a big deal, yet it is no small task. Especially if the individuals that require this service are located all over the state and they are members of the Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing communities. These folks may find it extremely challenging to try to navigate public transportation services. Besides any physical challenges they may face, the task becomes even more difficult if physical or financial concerns are present. Our goal is to eliminate these barriers by establishing a transportation system based on the 5 CT regions. This can be done either independently or collaboratively with other agencies already providing this service.
